Biden’s Energy Department concluded that the COVID-19 pandemic was caused by a laboratory leak in a classified intelligence report given to certain members of Congress and the White House, according to a report by the Wall Street Journal citing a classified intelligence report.
“The shift by the Energy Department, which previously was undecided on how the virus emerged, is noted in an update to a 2021 document by Director of National Intelligence Avril Haines’s office,” reported the Journal. The outlet reported that the U.S. Department of Energy made their conclusion with “low confidence.”
“The new report highlights how different parts of the intelligence community have arrived at disparate judgments about the pandemic’s origin. The Energy Department now joins the Federal Bureau of Investigation in saying the virus likely spread via a mishap at a Chinese laboratory,” the report states.
“Four other agencies, along with a national intelligence panel, still judge that it was likely the result of a natural transmission, and two are undecided.”
The FBI reportedly believes with “moderate confidence” that the pandemic originated from a laboratory in Wuhan, China.
Numerous media corporations, Democrat politicians, and public health officials since the “lab leak” theory arose have dismissed the idea in favor of a theory that the virus was created by nature.
“President Biden specifically requested that the national labs, which are part of the Energy Department, be brought into this assessment because he wants to put every tool at use to be able to figure out what happened here,” Biden administration National Security Advisor Jake Sullivan said of the Energy Department’s report.
“A number of them have said they just don’t have enough information,” Sullivan claimed, adding that there are a “variety of views in the intelligence community” concerning COVID-19’s origins.
Stanford University microbiologist David Relman told the Journal that he welcomes the Energy Department’s findings.
“Kudos to those who are willing to set aside their preconceptions and objectively re-examine what we know and don’t know about COVID origins. My plea is that we not accept an incomplete answer or give up because of political expediency.”
