Police have released bodycam footage of officers responding to a domestic disturbance between Paul Pelosi, husband of former Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi, and David DePape.
The footage shows the police knocking on the door and encountering Pelosi and DePape after it was opened
When he answered the door, Pelosi was without pants and had one hand intertwined with David DePape’s, holding onto a hammer. The footage showed the officers ordering DePape to release the hammer, but he refused, turning instead to attack Pelosi.
Both men then fell to ground, and as police tried to separate them, a loud snoring sound is heard in the video.
The two were apparently arguing prior to police arriving on scene, but it is unclear why they were fighting or what led up to their altercation. Reports from neighbors say that there had been disturbances at the home before but this incident was much more serious than anything else they had seen before.
DePape is currently being held in jail while awaiting trial while Pelosi has since been released with no charges filed against him, though he continues to reel from a separate DUI incident earlier last year.
Immediately after the altercation, some people wondered if Pelosi and DePape had some sort of relationship. This was quickly denied by the Pelosi family and the media.
However, it remains unclear why DePape – a prominent liberal, nudist activist who allegedly became a conservative after being divorced by his wife, who is in prison – found himself in Pelosi’s home.
At the time, Pelosi was the Speaker of the House, and thus was the third person in line to become President of the United States should something have happened to Joe Biden and Kamala Harris.
DePape’s son, Nebosvod “Sky” Gonzalez, claimed in an interview with the media that his father has lived a life of suffering and abuse, and may have been a “sex slave” at one point.
