CPAC’s Schlapp Sued For Alleged ‘Fondling’ of Male Staffer’s Genitals

Matt Schlapp has been sued for allegedly “fondling” the genitals of an anonymous male staffer on the Herschel Walker campaign last year.

The suit, filed anonymously in the Virginia Circuit Court of Alexandria, claimed that Schlapp, who runs the group behind the annual CPAC conference, the American Conservative Union, was “aggressively fondling” the genitals of the accuser “in a sustained fashion” in a car in October last year.

The suit calls for Schlapp to pay the alleged victim $9.4 million in damages.

According to the suit, the incident happened when the staffer was tasked with driving Schlapp to an event in Perry, Georgia, for the Herschel Walker for Senate campaign. After visiting two bars together that evening, Schlapp allegedly groped the leg and crotch of the staffer.

The alleged incident left him “frozen with shock, mortification, and fear from what was happening, particularly given Mr Schlapp’s power and status in conservative political circles,” the lawsuit stated, adding that “Mr. Doe did not consent to Mr. Schlapp’s fondling of his genital area.”

A day after the incident allegedly happened, the staffer told senior Walker campaign officials of what had supposedly occurred, who, according to the suit, offered the staffer support.

In a text to Schlapp from the staffer, they wrote that they “did want to say [they were] uncomfortable with what happened last night.”

In a statement, Timothy Hyland, a lawyer for the staffer, said that the plaintiff was a “victim of a sexual assault” by Schlapp:

“The complaint details claims for battery, defamation, and conspiracy. Our client takes no joy in filing this lawsuit. However, Mr Schlapp has had ample time to accept responsibility and apologize for his despicable actions. But instead of doing the right thing, Mr Schlapp, Ms Schlapp, and their friends and associates embarked on a ridiculous, spurious, and defamatory attempt to smear the reputation of Mr. Schlapp’s victim.”

The allegations of defamation relate to statements supposedly made by Schlapp’s wife Mercedes, the former Director of Communications for the Trump administration, in a group chat, after the far-left news outlet The Daily Beast ran with the accusations at the start of the month.

“We have learned that the accuser is a troubled individual,” Mercedes Schlapp allegedly wrote in the group chat. “He has been fired from multiple jobs including one firing for lying and lying in his resume. We are sticking to our lawyers statement.”

A statement released on Tuesday from Charlie Spies, the attorney for Schlapp and his wife, alleged that the “real agenda” of the anonymous accuser is to work “in concert with the Daily Beast to attack and harm the Schlapp family.”

“The complaint is false, and the Schlapp family is suffering unbearable pain and stress due to the false allegation from an anonymous individual,” Spies added. “No family should ever go through this, and the Schlapps and their legal team are assessing counter-lawsuit options.”

When the allegations initially broke, the Board of the American Conservative Union released a statement confirming that they “stand squarely behind” Schlapp:

“We know Matt Schlapp’s heart and his character. And we believe this latest attempt at character assassination is false. Unfortunately, the Left and its note takers in the media routinely choose to scorch the earth in their quest to cancel those with whom they disagree. Whether it’s conservative judicial nominees or good people like Matt Schlapp, they will sink to any depth to destroy them and their families… We stand squarely behind Matt Schlapp, and the ACU Board of Directors has full confidence in his leadership of the organization.”
