Kevin McCarthy Promises Full Public Release Of His January 6 Footage

House Speaker Kevin McCarthy promised that over 40 thousand hours of January 6 Capitol surveillance footage will be released to the public.

When asked by Breitbart’s Matthew Boyle why the House Speaker chose to give Fox News host Tucker Carlson access to the massive trove of security footage from the Capitol on January 6, McCarthy stated that he made the move for transparency reasons.

“It won’t just be to Tucker. Like any news organization, different people get exclusives. We watched during the January 6, CNN would have exclusives all the time and nobody complained,” said McCarthy.

“CNN actually got to be in the Statuary Hall for a whole hour for their own show. You’ve watched that, January 6 would release only certain tapes,” he added. “I think it’s better for transparency that anyone can make their own decision up.”

The House Speaker noted that the January 6 Committee previously claimed that there were only 14 thousand hours of footage, when the true number was closer to 42 thousand.

“We want to make sure for security purposes certain exists aren’t shown in others. But, you know, the most interesting thing when I sat down, when I had the team talk to the Capitol Police about making sure they had no problems with the exits showing, they said the January 6 [Committee] never asked them that,” McCarthy said.

“They showed the exit of the vice president. They showed the exit from my office. They literally had then-Speaker Pelosi’s daughter showing the secure location that they take the leadership. That’s not supposed to be known to anybody. And CNN reported it, and I don’t remember the press ever getting upset with that.”

McCarthy said he intends to fully release the Janaury 6 security footage after “going through” it, noting that “it takes time.”

Carlson on Monday released previously suppressed security footage from January 6 that purportedly showed U.S. Capitol Police officers nonchalantly escorting a now-incarcerated Jacob Chansley around the Capitol complex and into the Senate chamber.

The story drew ire from establishment Republican politicians, Democrats, and members of the corporate media, who in some cases called for the reporter to be censored and even criminally prosecuted.

“Because to me, this should be against the law. You should not be able to lie to the American people knowingly. You know it’s one thing if you made a mistake and you didn’t know,” said “The View” host Whoopi Goldberg.

“But we’ve heard for five or six years now, you know, the media was a lying sack of doo. They were fake news. They were this. So how come? What is our… what do we do as Americans to say this is not okay? The first amendment doesn’t allow you to willingly lie. To me, that should be illegal.”
