Mexican President Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador decried the Biden administration for accusing him of corruption while seeking to arrest former President Donald Trump so that he cannot participate in the 2024 general election.
“Right now, former President Trump is declaring that they are going to arrest him,” AMLO stated. “If that were the case…it would be so that his name doesn’t appear on the ballot.”
Obrador claimed he sympathizes with Trump because he too had been targeted with “the fabrication of a crime, when they didn’t want me to run.”
“And this is completely anti-democratic… Why not allow the people to decide?” he added. “Let’s see, human rights? Why don’t you release Assange? If you are talking about journalism and freedom, why are you holding Assange?”
“If you talk about acts of violence, how is it that an award-winning United States journalist tells us that the United States government sabotaged the Russian-European gas pipeline?” the Mexican president queried.
“Why is a cartel, or several cartels, allowed to operate in the United States, freely distributing the fentanyl that does so much harm to young people in that country?” AMLO added.
AMLO concluded that the United States should stop trying to “be the government of the world.”
The president thanked Joe Bidenearlier this year for being the “first president of the United States in a very long time that has not build even one meter of wall.”
AMLO made the comments during a joint press conference between himself, Biden, and Canadian president Justin Trudeau.
“You, President Biden, You are the first president of the United States in a very long time that has not build even one meter of wall,” AMLO said. “And we thank you for that, sir.”
